The Department of Sanitation has announced that there will be residential trash collection on Friday, November 10th, 2023, the Veterans Day holiday (observed).

Residents of the SoHo Broadway district, who normally receive Friday trash collection, may place their material at the curb as they normally would the evening of Thursday the 9th. Residents may experience collection delays, as is common after holidays. DSNY appreciates patience as they work to collect the material.

In recent years DSNY has often announced its plans for holiday service in the weeks leading up to the day. Please check DSNY’s social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram), DSNY’s press release page, or 311 for updated direction as future collection dates that fall on a holiday approach.

This is a friendly reminder that there will be no residential garbage collection on Monday, October 9th, 2023 due to the Indigenous Peoples’ Day holiday.

Please do not place garbage out on Sunday, October 8th. The next residential collection is scheduled for Wednesday, October 11th. You can set out your garbage and recycling on the evening of Tuesday, October 10th for collection on Wednesday. Find more information about set-out rules here.

In a break from prior holiday schedules, the Department of Sanitation announced additional service and a change in guidance for the Labor Day holiday on Monday, September 4, 2023.

Residents should place their material at the curb Sunday evening September 3rd between 6 p.m. and midnight in a secure container (or between 8 p.m. and midnight if bags are placed directly on the curb). This is the 2nd year of pilot “on-holiday pick-up” represents an additional service as collection normally does not take place on the holiday.

While the Department strives to offer this service in a timely manner, please note that collection delays are possible after holidays.

Have you ever wondered why there are times when bags of garbage seem to stay out in front of buildings for days? Chances are garbage or recycling was placed out for pick-up on a day when the Department of Sanitation (DSNY) residential collection was suspended due to a holiday being observed.

We’ve created a downloadable calendar specific to SoHo Broadway to post in your building (or share with your neighbors). We’ve also listed the dates below for your convenience.

DSNY residential trash and recycling collections are suspended in the SoHo Broadway district on the following dates in 2023:

Garbage and recycling should not be placed out for collection on days when DSNY residential collection is suspended.
