SoHo Broadway District: New plantings welcome spring in SoHo

Thanks to our partnership with the Horticultural Society of New York, a new batch of spring plantings arrived last month in the curb extensions along Broadway an effort to beautify the corridor and create a more pleasant pedestrian experience. Plantings included blue and yellow pansies, osteospermum, as well as fragrant hyacinths.

SoHo Broadway District: New bike corral installed at Grand Street & Broadway

Just in time for Earth Month, the New York City Department of Transportation has installed new in-roadway bicycle parking at the southwest corner of Grand Street and Broadway. This new bike corral comprises 6 hoop racks with parking for up to 12 bicycles in total. Conveniently located adjacent to the Grand Street protected bike lane, commuters, shoppers, and visitors alike have a new convenient location to lock up while going about their day in the SoHo Broadway district.

In combination with other existing bike racks, a network of bike lanes, as well as nearby Citi Bike stations, the SoHo Broadway corridor continues to be an accessible destination for those using this ever-more-popular emissions-free mode of transportation.

SoHo Broadway Initiative: A Season of Rebirth

As we step into the embrace of spring, the season serves as a reminder of the eternal cycle of change and renewal in nature. This echoes our own journey at the SoHo Broadway Initiative as we embark upon a new chapter in our history.

It is with great pleasure that I announce the recent appointment of Erin Piscopink as the Initiative’s second Executive Director, following an extensive and diligent selection process overseen by the Board of Directors’ Executive Committee.

Erin has extensive experience in community and economic development, aligned with a valuable understanding of marketing and communications in the role of placemaking. Prior to joining the SoHo Broadway Initiative, Erin was the Executive Director of the Grand Street BID in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and has lent her talents to various roles in government, higher education, and nonprofit organizations, including notable contributions in Detroit and at the Long Island City Partnership. Her academic background, with a planning-focused undergraduate degree from Grand Valley State University and a master’s degree in Urban Policy and Leadership from Hunter College, further underscores her commitment to our mission.

On behalf of our Board of Directors, I encourage the community to extend Erin a warm welcome to SoHo and the SoHo Broadway Initiative. Together, we anticipate the collaborative endeavors that lie ahead as we strive to cultivate a vibrant and dynamic live-work community in SoHo.

Additionally, I am pleased to announce that Brandon Zwagerman, who has been an integral part of our team since 2019, will assume the role of Deputy Director. Brandon’s steadfast dedication and exemplary leadership, particularly during his tenure as Acting Executive Director, have been instrumental in sustaining the Initiative’s core services and programs amidst a transitional period. The Board expresses its gratitude to Brandon for his unwavering commitment and looks forward to his continued contributions in this new capacity.

As we turn the page to a new era marked by growth and renewal, we stand poised to embrace the opportunities that lie before us. With a steadfast commitment to the next chapter of working together as an organization and community, our mission is to continue to improve the neighborhood and foster a unique, vibrant district where people live, work, shop and explore.

Warm regards,
