Did you know that New Yorker’s are throwing out nearly six million tons of waste every year? That is equivalent to 141 billion Twinkies in our landfill. Much of that waste includes items such as clothes, books, and electronics that can be reused. By donating these goods, New Yorkers can help keep waste out of landfills, provide jobs and social services, save money, and conserve energy.
donateNYC is a program created by the NYC Department of Sanitation that helps New Yorkers give goods, find goods, and do good, with tools that make it easy to donate or find used items. This an essential part of NYC’s 0X30 initiative, helping New Yorkers reach the goal of sending zero waste to landfills by 2030. Residents can use donateNYC to give or find reusable items; businesses and nonprofits can exchange used goods; and local reuse organizations can join the donateNYC program.
